Cooking For Charity book launched to support Dementia Australia

A new book launched today, Cooking For Charity, celebrates the life and work of Chef de Cuisine Jeffrey Tan and takes readers on a journey from Jeffrey’s childhood in Malaysia to the founding of his multimillion-dollar charity initiative.

Dementia Australia Board Member Neil Samuel officially launched the book today at the Perc Walkley Dementia Learning Centre with Chef Jeffrey and book co-author, John Kumnick.

“Chef Jeffrey has been a passionate supporter of Dementia Australia and the Rotary International Foundation for many years and today is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate his work,” Mr Kumnick said.

Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe said the book was both a captivating biography and a beautiful cookbook.

“The story of Chef Jeffrey’s life and charity work will be an inspiration to readers,” Ms McCabe said.

“Cooking for Charity, led by Chef Jeffrey, donates a team of chefs and Rotary volunteers to cook dinner parties in your own home – they come to you. It is these extraordinary dinners that have been auctioned at charity events all over Australia and Asia since 2010.

For Dementia Australia Chef Jeffrey inspired five chefs to join him and cook five courses at our A Night To Remember fundraising dinners over four years that raised over $200,000 to support our programs.

“Jeffrey and the dedicated team of Rotary members and volunteers have raised almost $4 million for charity and hope to continue to raise even more through the sales of this book.”

Chef Jeffrey Tan said he was honoured to have a book written about him and encouraged readers to try the recipes in the book.

“The book includes a guide on how to host your own charity dinner party, including a handpicked selection of recipes for the night,” he said

“I’m humbled that my friends and colleagues at Rotary have volunteered their time over the previous three years to putting this book together.”

All proceeds from the sale of the book go to Rotary International Foundation and Dementia Australia.
