Whether it’s cycling from Bondi to Berry, or Uluru to Ballarat, or dashing across Mildura, community fundraisers have been out in force this Dementia Awareness Month.
On the first Sunday of the month, to coincide with father’s day, a group of volunteers at Mildura hosted the annual Dash for Dementia fun run event. It was attended by somewhere in the region 200 people and, although donations are still being received by the event organisers, it is looking on target to raise in excess of $10,000.
During the first week of the month, Nick Loncandro commenced the 2,200km from Uluru to Ballarat in memory of his father Sam, who lived with younger onset dementia. Nick is being joined by two friends on the epic journey, which is expected to take in the region of two weeks.
And last weekend, cycling enthusiasts Nick Young and Pierre Sullivan, together with 80 fellow cyclists, undertook the Bondi2Berry Ride to Remember. The event, which saw the cyclists ride the 155km journey from Bondi to Berry, was a great success with more than $120,000 raised so far.
We cannot thank all of our community fundraisers enough for their remarkable achievements and contributions.
